"We do wish to contract the Microsoft server products." There were a number of 
alternatives that government officials could select, such as an 'Enterprise 
Agreement' or a 'Premier Support Agreement'.

Socialist MP Martijn van Dam foresees the open source ambitions, laid down 
unanimously by parliament in 2002, derailing. “With this action, open source 
is placed offside for years and European rules for public bids are completely 
ignored,” says Van Dam. “The government links itself to a single supplier. 
That makes us vulnerable.”

Several MPs now demand an explanation. They ask why there wasn't a public 
tender, which is mandatory for (IT) projects of €236,000 or more. A 
definitive vote on the proposed plans is expected next week.
